This article is largely about stuff that wasn't done. There should also be stuff on what was done, like blackouts, the ARP wardens, siren systems. I've got a stub on ARP wardens, so we might decide how to split things between them. DJ Clayworth 17:37, 11 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi DJ, Well write it then,if you have all the details on it. However, I do feel ARP and ARP wardens belong into the same article, they should not be split, as they really refer to the same subject. ARP wardens were detailed to execute and see that all the instructions were indeed executed. Their duties were tightly interwoven with the precautions, so a separate article would be of little help. A subsequent reviewer or editor would almost certainly (and quite rightly) merge both contents. Dieter Simon 00:18, 12 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This page contains no discussion of ARP activity in Australia, apart from a photo of an ARP warden in Brisbane. VK2AFL (talk) 09:23, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite

[edit]

I've started n a complete rewrite of this article. It's far too short and needs more balance regarding the running and operation and results. Also, random pictures don't really help. Londonclanger (talk) 11:16, 15 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Title doesn't sound right

[edit]

The current title "Air Raid Precautions in the United Kingdom" doesn't sound like it's about an organization, it sounds more like it's about the precautions themselves. I think something like Air Raid Precautions (British organisation) would be less confusing. Siuenti (talk) 16:28, 1 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Overlap with Civil Defence Service article

[edit]

As I see it, this article is about the whole scope of air raid precautions in the UK, from the first subcommittees in the 1920s right through to the Cold War, whereas Civil Defence Service is about the ARP/CD during WW2 (both before and after the name change to Civil Defence Service). There's currently a lot of overlap between the two articles and I think some of the wartime stuff could probably be cut out of this one since it's already covered in the CD article. British Pet Massacre

[edit]

Were pets allowed in Air Raid Shelters in London or elsewhere?
